A new exhibition at the Barbican Art Gallery is a reminder that Charles and Ray Eames were responsible for much more than just furniture (including that famous chair).
The World of Charles and Ray Eames (21 October to 14 February) celebrates the husband-and-wife partnership with a major new survey of their careers and the pioneering design of the Eames Office over four decades. They ranged from architecture, furniture, graphic and product design to painting, film, photography and multi-media installation. Bringing together over 380 works, this is the first major UK exhibition in 15 years and produced in collaboration with the Eames Office. Highlights include a full-scale model of moulded plastic chair La Chaise, as well as prototypes on loan from Vitra Design Museum in Basel.
