The Barbican continues to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death with several productions this autumn.

As well as King Lear (10 November to 23 December) starring Antony Sher (pictured) and Cymbeline (31 October to 22 December), the Royal Shakespeare Company is staging plays by two of the Bard’s contemporaries. Ben Jonson’s The Alchemist and Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus are both at the Barbican in September. Looking ahead to 2017, director Ivo van Hove returns with a theatrical residency, including Jude Law in the premiere of Obsession (19 April to 20 May), a noir thriller based on the 1943 Italian film by directo rLuchino Visconti.
