Christmas in Clerkenwell

Feeling festive? We might not have a towering spruce or a giant skating rink here in EC1, but there’s plenty of stylish and quirky ways to celebrate the season in the neighbourhood…

Silent Disco Night
Christmas parties normally mean the mass-infliction of Wham and Mariah Carey. At the Goldsmith Centre’s Silent Disco nights, you’re free to listen to your own tunes – as each guest receives a set of headphones, along with a glass of fizz on arrival. You can bring your own playlists and proceeds from each party booking go to charity.

Swan Lake at Sadler’s Wells
Putting on the glad rags for an evening of ballet at Sadler’s Wells is one of our favourite local traditions, and this year’s offering sees the return of a modern classic. Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake premiered at Sadler’s Wells in 1995 to rave reviews and has since gone on to win multiple awards, including three TONYs. The production, perhaps best known for its all-male corps de ballet, has toured the world and this year is back at Sadler’s Wells from 4 December 2013 – 26 January 2014.

Make Your Own
Christmas Cards and Stockings Forget DIY, it’s all about CIY (Craft It Yourself) at Craft Central. These regular workshops take on an appropriately Christmassy bent during late November and December, with a lino-blocking session on 26 November when you can print your own cards, gift bags and tags. Or have a bash at making your own Christmas stocking on 9 December, in a session led by textile artist Emily-Jo Gibbs.
