Clerkenwell Design week (21- 23 May)

Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) is back for a fourth year. The award-winning festival takes place from 21-23 May, with a jam-packed calendar of exhibits, events and contributions from more than 150 leading designers and manufacturers from around the world.

CDW’s main sites are far from your average venues, being a former warehouse film set, an underground prison and medieval crypt. The Farmiloe Building, where movies such as Batman Begins and Sherlock Holmes were filmed, will be home to leading UK and international brands. The Order of Detention will host up-and-coming design talent, while The Priory of the Order of St John is the place to spot 2013’s latest interior decoration trends.

The whole area is in on the fun – with events and talks at some 50 of Clerkenwell’s leading design showrooms, offers at top restaurants (see p6), and new attractions for 2013 including pop-up pavilions like Covered at Charterhouse Square, which focuses on surfaces. Headline sponsor Jaguar asked students on the automobile and textiles courses at the Royal College of Art to create a new vision for the future design language of the brand – see the winning design at the Farmiloe Building, along with Jaguar’s new F-TYPE. With all this and more going on, it’s no wonder CDW won Best Festival and Cultural Event at the UK Event Awards 2012, and this year’s festival looks set to be even bigger and better.

You can register for free entry to Clerkenwell Design Week on the website, where you’ll also find more info and a programme of events.
