Three courses of food news, by Katy Salter

STARTER

Clerkenwell's long been a restaurant hot spot, but something of a desert for grocery stores. That's all starting to change with a clutch of recent openings, including the new Quality Chop House Butchers and Shop on Farringdon Road. The store is next door to the Quality Chop House and will stock a range of meat from the same farmer that supplies the restaurant. It will also offer freshly prepared meals to take away and a selection of Quality Chop-branded products, including jams, chutneys, relishes and pickles as well as wellsourced basics like milk and eggs.

Where’s the hardest place to get a table in EC1 right now? It’s a toss-up between teensy Sushi Tetsu in Jerusalem Passage and Foxlow, the new St John Street joint from the team behind Hawksmoor. The Post snuck in for a Foxlow preview and we already love it: the Brooklyn-barmeets- 1940- Tube-station decor, the creative cocktails, the salad bar (think Pizza Hut, but good), and the already much-Tweeted Eight-hour bacon rib. While that dish is as rich and delicious as you’d think, we were equally impressed with other menu fixtures like the crisp salt and pepper squid and the tender Iberico pork ‘pluma’. With most mains priced between £10 and £16, it’s a more affordable alternative to Hawksmoor, too.

PUDDING

Farringdon is getting a fantastical new drinking den. The Fable opens mid-February on Holborn Viaduct and is from the same stable as The Folly and The Drift bars in the City. Expect bar group Drake & Morgan's trademark mix of eccentric furnishings and mixed-use space, including an on-site florist with a roll-top bath full of blooms, a library and deli. Signature cocktails will include a Fig Old Fashioned and a Spiced Pisco Sour.
