Katy Salter dishes up the local gastro need-to-know

THE ZETTER GROUP, GRAIN STORE

Clerkenwell is an incubator for top restaurants. The Modern Pantry now has a City off shoot, St John has a bakery – whisper it – south of the river, and Caravan and Granger & Co both have sites in King’s Cross.

Now The Zetter Group is spreading its wings. Already open is The Zetter Townhouse Mk II in Marylebone. Plus, later this autumn you’ll be able to dodge the limp sarnies and all-day breakfasts at Gatwick Airport for an outpost of Grain Store, with exclusive pre-flight menus from Bruno Loubet.

THE JUGGED HARE

Forget fried chicken. It’s all about the Finger Lickin’ Pheasant Bucket at The Jugged Hare this autumn as the Chiswell Street gastropub celebrates game season. The FLP is on the menu during National Pheasant Week (16-22 November), and consists of eight pieces of pheasant fried in a secret recipe coating and served with hand-cut chips and coleslaw. The Jugged Hare is also holding a ‘Pheastival’ on 21 November, with live music and a pheasant plucking and cooking contest featuring top chefs.

THREE LITTLE BIRDS

Three Little Birds is an ambitious new arrival on Mount Pleasant. It’s a permanent home for the talents of Aussie chef Chris Jordan, the man behind A Taste pop-ups around the capital. Jordan has teamed up with fellow chef Alejandro Diaz. Their menu majors on seasonal produce and has that fusion quality that ‘modern Australian’ places (like Caravan and Granger & Co) do so well. Think teriyaki pork belly and prawns with pickled corn or crispy oysters with sea vegetables. Open for lunch on weekdays, plus dinner from Wednesday to Saturday.
