KRICKET X HIX
Get a Kricket fix in EC1 this October. Will Bowlby, head chef of modern Indian hotspot Kricket Soho, is teaming up with Mark Hix for a one-off curry dinner on 16 October. The chefs are celebrating the best of Anglo- Indian flavours to mark the end of National Curry Week. The menu will make the most of British ingredients and Indian spicing with Will’s samphire pakoras (a big Kricket hit) and Mark’s signature monkfish curry. Diners can wash it down with a pint of ale brewed for the night by Innis & Gunn.

THE GREAT CHASE
Soft drinks have come a long way. It’s a sign of how much things have changed that new restaurant The Great Chase has a 100 per cent alcohol-free drinks list. Sommelier Will Wragg has created some tempting booze-free cocktails, including The Tayberry Spritz, made with a tayberry and rose cordial. There’s Spicy Marys at the weekend, and a fully stocked boozeless bar which includes Seedlip, brunch sodas from John Lemon and teas from The Rare Tea Co. Dishes include a burger with brisket and smoked cheddar.

THE ZETTER TOWNHOUSE
Clerkenwell: great for coffee and tacos, not so great for tea and scones. Until recently, that is. The Zetter Townhouse joins The Modern Pantry as one of a handful of EC1 spots to get a proper afternoon tea. It’s available in the Townhouse’s cocktail lounge from 2-5pm every day. The menu has been created by Benjamin Boeynaems (previously head chef at The Goring Hotel). Savouries include truffled sausage rolls with homemade brown sauce and Calvados and honey roast ham finger sandwiches. For sweets, there’s a salted caramel and apple choux bun or lemon and elderflower cake with Chantilly cream. Plus scones, of course.
