3D printing's time has come. First the world's biggest 3D print shop, iMakr, opened in Clerkenwell Road (Post, issue 16), and now a printout has won Technology Design of the Year at the Icon Magazine Awards 2013.

New Zealander Jake Evill got the idea for his "exoskeleton" after breaking his hand, and used a 3D printer to create the washable, ventilated cast. Product Design of the Year was presented to Vitamins, Design and Invention Studio (based just down the road in Shoreditch), who reinvented the wheel with Morph, the world's first folding wheelchair wheel. Clerkenwell Design Week sponsored the Furniture Design of the Year award, which went to Bench B, a reinvention of a 1929 design classic by Konstantin Grcic at BD Barcelona Design. There will be plenty to quench your thirst for design here in EC1 when Clerkenwell Design Week returns on 20-22 May.
