For those who prefer handmade to high street, Craft Central’s bi-annual open studios event Made in Clerkenwell takes place on 15-18 May.

Around 100 selected designer-makers will be selling fashion, jewellery, accessories, ceramics, prints, illustration and interior products in the studios where they work. You can even commission a unique piece or find a bespoke design service. Famed for fashion, Made in Clerkenwell will feature an array of striking jewellery from designers including Sonia Cheadle, Sarah Herriot, Mark Nuell, and Amy Keeper. Katherine Elizabeth – whose clients include Dita Von Teese, Fearne Cotton and Alexa Chung – will be on hand with vintage-inspired hats. And there’s knitwear from Kate Jones. A £3 ticket will give you unlimited access over four days to the Victorian studio buildings, which are just two minutes apart in Clerkenwell Green and St John’s Square. Book in advance online to avoid the queues.
