Mind the gap! The old Post Office Underground Railway under Mount Pleasant – better known as the Mail Rail – is set to open to visitors in 2016.

The subterranean ride through 1km of original tunnels will follow the same route that much of our mail took for around 80 years until 2003. Islington Borough Council approved plans for the interactive ride proposed by the British Postal Museum & Archive. This hidden, underground world is part of the BPMA's plan to open up 400 years of records and objects related to the postal service, which was established by Charles I. The BPMA will also be launching a funding drive to make up the final £500,000 required for the Mail Rail project.
