Our cover this issue is partly inspired by the golden age of transport advertisements. But the General Post Office (as it was known until 1969) also had some classic marketing designs, including this 1937 mail train poster by Lili Rethi. It's part of a collection put up for auction to raise funds for the new Postal Museum and Rail Mail experience, opening in Farringdon in 2016. Many of the artists went on to work on iconic designs for London Transport. The auctioned posters were duplicates of those held in the archive.
