On a Roll

Ben Watt ran a record label out of his Clerkenwell office, and he staged his live comeback at the Slaughtered Lamb in Great Sutton Street.

Formerly a DJ and half of Everything But the Girl with his wife Tracey Thorn, Watt was critically acclaimed for Hendra, his first solo album of folk-rock since his 1983 debut. That 31-year gap was reflected in a unique award he won at independent music body AIM’s prize ceremony: best ‘difficult’ second album.

Watt’s back with a follow-up record, Fever Dream, released on 8 April through his Unmade Road label. He’s also playing a sold-out launch show in our neighbourhood at the Lexington on 6 April.
