If you fancy going for an open-air dip near EC1 this summer, head a little north of the neighbourhood to King’s Cross Pond Club.
Of Soil and Water is a new art installation in the form of a natural bathing pond, surrounded by wild flowers and grasses, in the middle of the King’s Cross development site. Designed by architects Ooze and artist Marjetica Potrc, it’s also the UK’s first ever man-made, fresh water public bathing pond. The 40-metre long, chemical-free pond uses wetland and submerged water plants to filter and sustain clean and clear water. Numbers are limited so book in advance (tickets are priced £3.50 to £6.50). There are changing rooms, toilets, lockers and showers (but no hair-dryers). The pool is due to remain open for up to two years – and really brave bathers can take the plunge in the winter.
