Rio de Janeiro is going to be in the global spotlight as the 2016 Olympic Games approaches.
So the Barbican is celebrating this vibrant city with a series of Brazilian films. The film season includes Fernando Meirelles’ City of God (pictured) from 2002, about the youngsters caught up in a gang war in a notorious slum (26 September). Mario Peixoto’s 1931 silent classic, Limite, will be screened with live musical accompaniment on 27 September. The series opens on 24 September with Wolf at the Door, a thriller from first-time director Fernando Coimbra.
