Berber & Q
Can’t get enough of Berber & Q’s Shawarma Bar’s bold, smoky flavours? Create a space on your bookshelf for the Berber & Q cookbook, out in May.
Berber & Q’s chef-owner Josh Katz has created a collection of barbecue and mezze recipes inspired by the best grilling techniques and traditions from New York, the Middle East and North Africa. Learn how to make menu-favourites from the Shawarma Bar on Exmouth Market and the original Berber & Q in Haggerston – like Berber & Q hummus and cauliflower shawarma or honey barbecue pork belly, served with a pineapple salsa.
Good and Proper Tea
Good and Proper Tea has been serving 29 varieties of tea since opening two years ago, and has now added a food offering. Head Chef Maisie Collins has created a seasonal menu with quirky twists: highlights include beetroot and seasonal root hash with coconut labneh, cheesy Marmite rarebit, and Chalk Stream smoked trout and poached eggs on rye. Each month sees Good and Proper Tea form a ‘crumpet collaboration’ with London foodies such as Instagrammer Clerkenwell Boy, Pip & Nut and Fatties Bakery. Brunch is served on weekdays from 8am to 3.30pm.
The Modern Pantry
Happy 10th Birthday to The Modern Pantry, based in the heart of Clerkenwell. The St John’s Square stalwart reaches the Big 1-0 this year. It’s been a busy first decade: an MBE for services to the restaurant industry for chef (and former Post columnist) Anna Hansen, an online food store, opening The Pantry shop next door, and a second restaurant in Finsbury Square (now closed). The restaurant plans to mark the anniversary with a series of supper clubs and other events: keep an eye on its website for more info.
