Katy Salter dishes up the local gastro need-to-know

Where do you stand on quirky cocktails? If you’re pro, then head to The Cocktail Trading Company in Smithfield. The new bar, underneath Ask for Janice, specialises in eccentric concoctions served in unexpected vessels. Sesame Peat is a blend of apricot brandy, tequila, cacao syrup and pineapple soda served in… er… a small bin with Elmo from Sesame Street, while other drinks come garnished with French fries. Don’t forget to charge your phone for all those Instagrams.

The Spanish have tapas, we Brits have ‘nibbles’… and the Italians have aperitivo. If you fancy channelling your inner Milanese sophisticate, the place to head is Enoteca Rabezzana. The Long Lane restaurant has had a refurb, adding an aperitivo bar that serves small plates and charcuterie. Visit from 5-6pm for ‘Aperitivo Hour’, when you’ll get complimentary snacks with your drinks. The wine list is exclusively Italian with a mix of big-hitters like Brunellos and Barolos, plus lesser-known varieties from micro producers. See you at the bar.
